Pandemic Illustration
I illustrated this piece as page one for the Pandemic issue of The Nib Magazine. I’m especially proud to have worked on this issue. This special issue was conceived during the initial wave of the pandemic in 2020. Furthermore, all of the pieces commissioned for the magazine were created before the vaccine rollout. That is to say deep in the grip of uncertainty and fear of what the future held. It’s certainly been a rollercoaster ride. Swinging back and forth from getting back to normal to reassessing what normal is exactly. Opening up again, anti-vaxx/anti-mask rallies, to new variants, it has been anything but “normal”. To be sure, we’re in a better place, but undoubtedly we have a long way to go.
It really is a fantastic issue, especially as a time capsule of collective our collective global struggle. Chock full of heavily researched, evidence-based comics, and heartfelt stories of loss and triumph. Get your copy here. Despite the fact that this piece was an American Illustration 40 award winner, I do not wish to do a sequel.
