World’s Oldest Cartoonist Dead
By Mark Kaufman
Boris Yefimov, the Soviet cartoonist and propagandist has died at the ripe old age of 109. Please read the New York Times obit, it is frickin’ amazing, here’s a guy who was edited by Stalin for crying out loud, despite the fact that Stalin executed Yefimov’s journalist brother. Talk about pressure, talk about a long life, here’s a guy that saw Czar Nicholas II when he was a child, he was a friend of Leon Trotsky, was despised by Adolph Hitler, and voted for Vladimir Putin. Now that is a long and storied career, his first published work was in 1916, before the revolution, and the image on the lower left is a work of his from 2007. Today I feel young and pretty, like I can draw for 100 years.
