The Comics Kingdom is a Royal Piece of Crap
By Mark Kaufman
King Features Syndicate has launched something called Comics Kingdom, a digital comics platform for newspapers to run comic strips on their websites. Now I don’t normally read Apartment 3G, or Mallard Fillmore, or Spiderman or most other newspaper comics, I find most of them to be downright horrible, although on occasion I will bore myself by reading the Phantom, or Rex Morgan MD, just to assuage some masochistic tendencies I have. I understand that millions (Thousands? Hundreds?) of people read this crap in newspapers every day. This new digital service is downright awful, putting aside the content for just a moment, I tried the service as it is running on 3 different newspapers across the country and it was slow, awkward and badly designed. Even if I was a reader that had to get their fix of Funky Winkerbean online, this is no way to do it. King Features should scrap this royal piece of crap and start over. If this is meant to drive people to a newspaper’s website and grow revenue, no wonder the newspaper business is in such terrible shape.
