Seattle Post-Intelligencer Shuts Down
Put a fork in the Seattle P-I.By Mark Kaufman
Yet another newspaper bites the dust. The Seattle P-I has published it’s last print edition today. It was my preferred Seattle daily. The Hearst Corporation will be publishing an online only version of the 146 year old newspaper. It seems doubtful to me that the online edition will last for close to 150 years, but it is a grand experiment at publishing a daily newspaper. I wish them luck. A couple of the papers writers and editors are angling to publish competing digital dailies, I worked with Kerry Murakami, one of the would be competitors years ago on the Two Newspaper Town organization, he is if nothing else dedicated to news gathering and journalism, and I wish him luck as well. We are all going to need some luck when the smoke clears and we are able to figure out what the media landscape will be once this era of newspapers as we know it comes to a close.
I would like to thank all of the current and past employees of the P-I for your dedication to informing and entertaining me in my 20 years in Seattle, and hopefully you will all find a place in the new journalism. Thank you.
