Fred Hilliard Has Passed Away
By Mark Kaufman
Fred Hilliard an artist that I admired from afar long before I ever moved to Seattle, passed away suddenly on Friday, February, 23, 2007. Fred was a fantastic conceptual artist, with a unique style, and clever wit, whose work for Williams, Boeing and other financial and business institutions always lept off the pages of the Wall Street Journal with it’s humor and low key style. My condolences to his family and friends.

September 19, 2009I just ran across "How to live with a Neurotic Dog. The thing that drew me to this book were the amazing Illustrations. I’ve had this book for years and somehow it was lost in my closet of many of my treasures. I wanted to write to Mr. Hilliard and discovered that he passed away in 2007? Am I mistaken?
What really struck me just now, is that his last name is spelled incorrectly on the jacket of the book, but is spelled correctly in the back of the book.
This is a delightful book and I am truly sad that I didn’t get the chance to tell him how his drawings touched me.

January 1, 2023Fred and I worked as a creative team in several Seattle advertising agencies and when Fred started is own agency in the later 1970’s. He was, in a word, sardonic. It is now 2023, so if you would like something else, hurry!

May 14, 2024Fred was a dear friend and collaborator of my dad’s and our house is full of his paintings. Someone just asked me a question about one of the paintings and it got me wondering whether there was any writing about Fred’s work online. This came up in my search and of course I recognized your name as well. Small world! Thank you for memorializing Fred.
