2010 Eisner Award Nominee: Best Anthology, Edited by Andrei Molotiu By Mark Kaufman

I attended a Jim Woodring book signing and lecture at the Fantagraphics Bookstore over the weekend. That’s all I’ll say about that, because I was totally distracted by this book, Abstract Comics: The Anthology, which I could not stop looking at during the slideshow. I know, I know, totally rude, but this book is AMAZING. Beautiful, scary and totally engaging experiments in sequential storytelling without words, or discernible pictures for that matter from the likes of Steinberg, Crumb, Kandinsky, Panter, McDonnell and a host of other cartoonists, illustrators, and artists I am not familiar with, but will be finding out about. Screw with comics? Yes, Please.
